Splintered Ice by Cali Melle is book six in the Wyncote Wolves series and is an interconnected standalone. A grumpy-sunshine trope you’ll get through in a singular day, simply because you won’t want to put it down. You’ll find yourself flipping pages ferociously to find out what happens next.
Meet Olivia. She comes across as a typical good girl but she’s had a crush on her best friend’s brother for as long as she can remember. She decides to transfer to Wyncote, which happens to be the same school her crush attends. Will she finally have to face her feelings for him?
Meet Sterling. He is a hockey player at Wyncote who finds it better to avoid detachment due to his goal of being drafted to the National Hockey League (NHL). His little sister’s best friend is transferring to his school midway through the year and she asked him to be there for her. What his sister doesn’t know, is that her best friend brightens his otherwise grumpy lifestyle. She’s off-limits so it will be easy to be just friends with her, right?
I adored the characters written by Melle. The male lead knew what he wanted and didn’t play around and the female lead made less than desirable decisions in critical moments, bringing an authenticity to the characters. I enjoyed how with Melle’s use of perspective, the reader is given privy to the characters inner thoughts. I found it added to the chemistry between the main characters. This story definitely hooked me and I will be getting into the entire series this summer. I cannot wait to read another!
