This book is for you if you like novellas, second chance romances, and loveable side characters. This is my first read from author Meghan Quinn (she’s a name twin, so I knew it would be good). Turns out, I was right!

Plot Summary

Caleb and Nola are a couple who broke up years ago and went their separate ways. They find themselves back in their hometown, simultaneously, at Christmas time. Α rescued letter from a wastebasket, penned by Resting Scrooge Face, weaves an interesting story between two nameless pen pals.

What I Liked

I really enjoyed the realism in the love story. Not every couple handles things in the same way and I found this to be a fresh take. I’m here for the small town vibes! I live in a Canadian small town so guilty of liking it due to relatability. My family participates in the Christmas Lights contest, bakes cookies, attends the Santa Claus Parade… the whole nine yards. Meghan did an excellent job of showing how smaller communities come together and share in the joy of Christmas magic.

I found the back-and-forth writing style to be engaging. The second thing about Meghan’s writing style I really enjoyed was the letters (it should be noted that I’m α sucker for snail mail). The short story format is excellent and being under 100 pages, it has earned itself a reputation as a great lunchtime read (I do not disagree).

This quick holiday read made me laugh out loud and had my heart adoring the elderly characters. Then there’s nameless pen pals. I was sold – the full hook, line, and beautiful sinker. Christmas might be another 353 days away but this light read will help keep the spirit with you all through the year!
